Responsibilities include leading and supporting all metrology tasks, such as calibrating, updating, repairing, optimizing, and installing existing and new instrumentation. Collaboration with maintenance, engineering, and operations to drive successful instrumentation and calibration projects is critical to this role. Additionally, expertise will be applied in measurement science, mathematics, and electronics to calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment. Managing external metrology partnerships will be a critical aspect of this role. This involves conducting performance audits to maintain high standards in calibrations that are not performed internally. • Policies & Procedures: Develop, implement, and ensure adherence to the standards, procedures, and forms necessary to run a fully compliant metrology program and lab.
  • Calibration: Ensure that measurement instruments and equipment are accurately calibrated according to established standards. This involves periodic checks, adjustments, and documentation.
  • Instrument Maintenance: Ensure that instruments are regularly inspected and maintained for optimal working condition. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.
  • Measurement Uncertainty Analysis: Assess and quantify the uncertainty associated with measurement results. Understanding factors that contribute to measurement errors and variability is crucial.
  • Validation and Verification: Ensure that equipment is validated to new measurement methods or equipment to ensure they meet accuracy requirements. Verification involves confirming that existing instruments perform as expected.
  • CMMS/Metrology Software Management: Oversee calibration-related tables, data, and forms in the CMMS software used for data collection, analysis, and reporting. Ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Traceability: Establish and maintain traceability of measurement results to national or international standards to ensure confidence in the accuracy of measurements.
  • Environmental Conditions Control: Ensure monitoring and control for environmental factors (such as temperature, humidity, and vibration) that can impact measurement accuracy. Work with Facilities & Engineering to ensure that stable conditions are provided.
  • Calibration Records Management: Keep detailed records of calibration activities, including calibration certificates, due dates, and historical data.
  • Training and Education: Provide training to staff on proper measurement techniques, instrument handling, and adherence to metrology procedures.
